SOS Tartarugas works in Cape Verde protecting nesting loggerheads turtles (Caretta caretta) and their habitat. Cape Verde is the third most important nesting area for loggerheads in the world. Turtles are at risk from hunting for meat, stealing of eggs, removal of sand for building and unregulated tourism development. Our email is info@turtlesos.org.

Still hatching


You can still see hatchlings being born at the hatchery on the beach outside the RIU hotel on Sal. Things are slowing down a little bit, but there are always Rangers on duty between 4pm and 6pm each day to answer your questions. There are also public releases in the evening where you can see your adopting baby turtle going into the sea.
