SOS Tartarugas works in Cape Verde protecting nesting loggerheads turtles (Caretta caretta) and their habitat. Cape Verde is the third most important nesting area for loggerheads in the world. Turtles are at risk from hunting for meat, stealing of eggs, removal of sand for building and unregulated tourism development. Our email is info@turtlesos.org. Please subscribe to the blog or follow us on Twitter or on our Facebook page to keep up to date.(You can also read this blog in a different language, please use the tool in the sidebar). Crazy situation in Costa Rica
Photos of people taking massive numbers of sea turtle eggs to sell.
Our beautiful dog, Rasher, the project mascot, was killed with strychnine which was placed close to the hatchery by a department of health worker who states it was requested by the manager of the RIU hotel. This disgusting practice still continues. You can help. Follow this link to join the campaign. http://life-on-sal.blogspot.com/
I am a wildlife film-maker who moved to Sal in 2007. I intended to make a film about the marine life here and in particular, turtles. When all I ever saw was nesting loggerheads cruelly slaughtered on the beach, I co-founded the organisation SOS Tartarugas in 2008. SOS Tartarugas is a non-profit NGO dedicated to the protection of turtles.
